A history of the People

We always start off as water,

but then the rain

washes the ocean out of us;

dried, we make sand.

The whistle of the wind calls next,

lifts our young beach

spiral brush or a sunbathed dance,

we learn movement.

Finally, loose ballet falls stung

to a desert

where the forest will in time grow

through our dead grip.
